Caterpillar Who Never Turned into a Butterfly
  • There was a once a Caterpillar
    Striking, Extraordinary and Magnificent
than the rest of his peers

The prettiest butterfly he will be, predicted the Fox
The life and soul of the garden, chimed in the Mole
The pride of all insects, exclaimed the Beetle

Of course, the Caterpillar believed all of that
    He believed he was striking
    He believed he was extraordinary
    He believed he was magnificent

    But most importantly,
    He believed he was special

But days turned into weeks and weeks turned into months
    Nothing happened
The Caterpillar began to doubt himself
    What went wrong?
Some of his peers were now in a cocoon state
Others already flew away with the biggest pair of wings he had ever seen

The Caterpillar shrank a little bit
From fear? from anxiety? from confusion?
    He, himself, did not know
All the wonderful ideas started to fly away with his peers' wings
He held on to them even tighter

He must be special in some ways
The rest of his life told him so
    They told him so

By the time winter had arrived,
the Caterpillar had turned into the sad Caterpillar
The gloommiest caterpillar one had ever seen, cried the Fox
With no spark of joy left in him, joined the Mole
But, unfortunately, the Beetle was long gone

The sad Caterpillar continued to lead a miserable life to suit his name
And days turned into weeks and weeks turned into months

Until one day, he came across a little pond near the oak
He always avoided coming near this place
    Afraid of his own reflection
Afraid of what he will see
Afraid of the word, DISAPPOINTMENT, screaming back at him

But that day, the rain had just stopped
The dew on the grasses, the rainbow in the sky
The weather was so perfect he could not resist
Hence, the sad Caterpillar looked down at the water

Surprisingly, it was not the gloomiest caterpillar
that was staring back at him
    It was the same old
    Striking, Extraordinary, Magnificent
    caterpillar he used to be
    and has always been

    The Caterpillar smiled
He smiled at the Fox and the Mole
He smiled at the butterflies in the sky
He smiled at the reflection from the little pond

Flowers began to bloom, birds started to sing
    It was spring again

The Caterpillar was now no longer a sad Caterpillar
Even though he never turned into a butterfly,
he was proud of what he was
and will continue to be so

This was a story of the Caterpillar who never turned into a butterfly
And, in that way, it made him the most special caterpillar in the whole wide world
