Furious

Riley looks upset. I don’t know what happened last night. I overslept. And now I wake up in cat form. But when I open my eyes and he sees I’m awake. His moody expression goes softer. His hands are on my head. His finger gently strokes from my ear to my chin. He doesn’t like cats, does he? Why is he smiling and kissing my nose?

“Good morning, stupid.”

“Good morning, Riley.” I answer. But my voice comes out as little purr.

“Are you talking to me? Your cat voice is somehow attractive. I don’t mind listening to your moan all day. Ah, it’s time to go to Uni. Will you go with me? ”

I tilt my head to the side with curiosity. Uni? University?

“I swear I never thought that cat is cute. But there you are. Undeniable cute. Human or cat. You still can attack me, Leon.”

The one who always strikes my heart is you. I murmur to myself. Stay still on the bed. Watching Riley get in and out of his bedroom. He comes back with cat food in one hand and human food in other.

“I’m not sure which one you prefer. I run to neighbor and ask for a can food.”

He is very nice to me. I can’t find any reason not to love him. So I eat all of them.

“Here we go. Don’t make a noise until I put you out, OK? If you hurt or uncomfortable, kick me.” He puts me in his large bag. Surrounding with a fluffy scarf to protect me from bumping. Riley is a considerate man. Always take care of every small detail which I never asked for. He kisses my forehead and closes the bag.

It’s dark but warm. His scent makes me comfortable. I can feel his careful footsteps. He walks really slow and keeps touching me through the bag. I hear a lot of sounds including the bus. After a long nap in his bag. I hear the zipper above my head. Then his warm hands hold me up. Get me out to sit on the wooden table.

“He is so tiny. Can I hug him? ”

“No. This is Leon. And Leon this is Thomas. He learns about God, Satan, Demon and kind of spirit things. I ask him for help.” Riley introduces me to another stranger man.

“He looks normal. Just like an ordinary cat.”

“But he isn’t. Can you tell me how to kill Satan? ”

What? My ear rises up in surprise. Riley touches my ear. Help me to calm down.

“Even God can’t kill him. Satan has infinity power source. Gaining from human’s greed. He knows your greed, your sin and your fear. The best three things to make you yearning. If you ask something from Satan, you will have to give him your life in return. That’s simple.”

“Are you saying we have no chance to win? Please, tell me everything you know. Anything can be useful. Like his weakness. Does he afraid of church, a cross or holy water? ”

“No. He is stronger than all of that. But...”

Thomas instantly opens his thick book. I just notice many antique books on the table. I sniff and smell the old scent from it.

“There it is. Satan always plays with your fear. He can’t physically harm you. But mentally he can trick you. He knows what you afraid of and use it against you. It can be fake illusion. An intensely realistic one which you will believe it’s happening to you at that moment.”

Wait! Does that mean all the cats didn’t die? Mrs. Molly is still alive? This morning Riley asked for can food from neighbor. It must be from Mrs. Molly’s owner.

“If I don’t believe that fake illusion, what will happen? ”

“Nothing. He can do nothing. But I don’t think human can fight with it. You don’t fear him. But you fear Leon might be dead, right? He will use it. He will let you watch Leon die again and again till you can’t endure it. You will be begging to die instead. And checkmate! That’s how it’s done. He can’t take anyone life unless you willingly give it to him.”

I said it! I told him to take my life instead on those innocent cats. But Satan didn’t take me that time. Does it mean I have a chance to get out of the curse?

“I get it. I will never believe the devil’s trap. And you too. Don’t believe anything the devil say. Just trust me. Only me.”

"It's good to trust in each other. I guess you have to depend on that from now on. When Satan knows you're planning to get ride of him. Everything will get worse. Your life will be a living hell. I don't say it to scare you. But to warn. This is so exciting! Can I be one of your crew to do the exorcism? You said you even saw Satan. I want to be your close friend now."

When did that happen? I've never seen Satan. Only talking with his voice.

"Satan has nothing to be fascinate of. But if you want to help, I will be highly appreciate."

"Let's go to the church after last lesson! I talked to the pastor about some religious book. That might help."

I hear someone’s screaming furiously. Such a terrifying voice. It might be Satan’s. Even the great devil is shaking. Ordinally man likes Riley can do so much more than I expected.

He is truly an angel. He can make Satan furious. Now I believe we will go through this. I wholeheartedly trust in him.

ไรลีย์ดูอารมณ์เสีย ผมไม่รู้ว่าเกิดอะไรขึ้นเมื่อคืนนี้ ผมนอนมากไปและตอนนี้ตื่นขึ้นมาในร่างแมว แต่เมื่อผมลืมตาและเขาเห็นว่าผมตื่น อารมณ์หงุดหงิดของเขาก็อ่อนลง มือของเขาอยู่บนหัวผม นิ้วของเขาลูบจากหูลงมาถึงคางผมอย่างอ่อนโยน เขาไม่ชอบแมวไม่ใช่เหรอ ทำไมเขายิ้มและจูบจมูกผมล่ะ

"อรุณสวัสดิ์ เด็กโง่"

"อรุณสวัสดิ์ ไรลีย์" ผมตอบ แต่เสียงของผมออกมาเป็นเสียงร้องเล็กๆ

"กำลังพูดกับฉันรึเปล่า เสียงแมวของนายน่าดึงดูดแบบบอกไม่ถูกนะ ฉันไม่ถือสาที่จะฟังนายครางทั้งวัน อา ถึงเวลาที่ต้องไปมหา'ลัย ไปกับฉันไหม"

ผมเอียงหัวไปทางหนึ่งด้วยความสงสัย มหา'ลัย มหาวิทยาลัย?

"สาบานเลยว่าฉันไม่เคยคิดว่าแมวน่ารัก และแล้วก็มีนาย น่ารักอย่างไม่อาจปฏิเสธได้ มนุษย์หรือแมว นายยังคงจู่โจมฉันได้ ลีออน"

คนเดียวที่มักจะจู่โจมหัวใจผมอยู่เสมอคือคุณนั่นแหละ ผมพึมพำกับตัวเอง อยู่นิ่งๆ บนเตียง มองดูไรลีย์เข้าๆ ออกๆ ห้องนอน เขากลับมาพร้อมกับอาหารแมวในมือหนึ่ง อาหารมนุษย์ที่อีกมือ

"ฉันไม่แน่ใจว่านายชอบอันไหน ฉันวิ่งไปหาเพื่อนบ้านเพื่อขออาหารกระป๋องให้นาย"

เขาดีกับผมมากเหลือเกิน ผมไม่อาจหาเหตุผลไม่ให้รักเขาได้ ดังนั้นผมกินมันทั้งหมด

"ไปกันเถอะ อย่าส่งเสียงจนกว่าฉันจะพานายออกมา ตกลงไหม ถ้านายเจ็บหรือรู้สึกไม่ดีเตะฉันเลย" เขาใส่ผมลงในกระเป๋าใบใหญ่ เอาผ้าพันคอหนานุ่มล้อมรอบเพื่อปกป้องผมจากการกระแทก ไรลีย์เป็นผู้ชายที่นึกถึงคนอื่น คอยดูแลรายละเอียดเล็กๆ น้อยๆ ที่ผมไม่เคยร้องขอ เขาจูบหน้าผากผมและปิดกระเป๋า

มันมืดแต่ทว่าอบอุ่น กลิ่นของเขาทำให้ผมรู้สึกสบาย ผมสัมผัสได้ถึงการย่างก้าวที่ระมัดระวังของเขา เขาเดินช้ามากและคอยแตะผมผ่านกระเป๋า ผมได้ยินเสียงอะไรมากมายรวมถึงเสียงรถบัส หลังจากงีบไปนานในกระเป๋า ผมได้ยินเสียงซิปเหนือหัวผม จากนั้นมืออุ่นอุ้มผมขึ้น พาผมออกมานั่งบนโต๊ะไม้

"เขาตัวเล็กจัง ฉันกอดเขาได้ไหม"

"ไม่ นี่ลีออน และลีออนนี่โทมัส เขาเรียนเกี่ยวกับพระเจ้า ซาตาน ปีศาจ และพวกวิญญาณ ฉันขอให้เขาช่วย" ไรลีย์แนะนำผมกับมนุษย์แปลกหน้า

"เขาดูปกติ เหมือนแมวทั่วไป"

"แต่เขาไม่ใช่ บอกฉันหน่อยได้ไหมว่าจะฆ่าซาตานยังไง"

อะไรนะ หูผมตั้งอย่างตกใจ ไรลีย์แตะหูผม ช่วยให้ผมใจเย็นลง

"แม้แต่พระเจ้าก็ฆ่าเขาไม่ได้ ซาตานมีแหล่งพลังงานที่ไม่สิ้นสุด เพิ่มพูนจากความโลภของมนุษย์ เขารู้ความโลภของนาย บาปของนาย และความกลัวของนาย สามสิ่งที่ดีที่สุดที่จะทำให้นายปรารถนา ถ้านายขออะไรจากซาตาน นายต้องให้ชีวิตนายเป็นการแลกเปลี่ยน นั่นเป็นเรื่องพื้นฐาน"

"นายกำลังบอกว่าเราไม่มีโอกาสชนะ? ได้โปรดเถอะ บอกฉันทุกอย่างที่นายรู้ อะไรก็ตามมันจะเป็นประโยชน์ เช่นจุดอ่อนของเขา เขากลัวโบสถ์ไหม ไม้กลางเขน หรือว่าน้ำมนต์?"

"ไม่ เขาแข็งแกร่งกว่าทั้งหมดนั่น แต่..."

โทมัสเปิดหนังสือเล่มหนาของเขาอย่างรวดเร็ว ผมเพิ่งสังเกตหนังสือโบราณมากมายบนโต๊ะ ผมดมและได้กลิ่นความเก่าจากมัน

"อยู่นี่ไง ซาตานมักจะเล่นกับความกลัวของนาย เขาไม่สามารถทำร้ายนายทางกาย แต่ทางใจเขาสามารถหลอกล่อนาย เขารู้ว่านายกลัวอะไรและจะใช้มันกับนาย อาจเป็นภาพลวงตา อันที่เหมือนจริงมากจนนายเชื่อว่ามันเกิดขึ้นจริง ณ ขณะนั้น"

เดี๋ยว! นั่นหมายความว่าแมวทั้งหมดไม่ได้ตายงั้นเหรอ คุณนายมอลลี่ยังมีชีวิตอยู่? เช้านี้ไรลีย์ขออาหารกระเป๋าจากเพื่อนบ้าน นั่นต้องมาจากเจ้าของคุณนายมอลลี่

"ถ้าฉันไม่เชื่อภาพลวงตา อะไรจะเกิดขึ้น"

"ไม่มีอะไรเกิดขึ้น เขาทำอะไรไม่ได้ แต่ฉันไม่คิดว่ามนุษย์จะสู้กับมันได้ นายไม่กลัวเขา แต่นายกลัวลีออนตายใช่ไหม เขาจะใช้มัน เขาจะให้นายดูลีออนตายซ้ำแล้วซ้ำอีกจนกระทั่งนายทนไม่ไหว นายจะร้องขอตายแทน และรุกฆาต! นั่นเป็นวิธีที่เขาใช้ เขาเอาชีวิตใครไปไม่ได้นอกเสียจากนายให้เขาด้วยความเต็มใจ"

ผมพูดแล้ว! ผมบอกให้เอาชีวิตผมไปแทนแมวที่ไม่รู้เรื่องเหล่านั้น แต่ซาตานไม่ได้เอาไปในตอนนั้น นั่นหมายความว่าผมมีโอกาสที่จะหลุดจากคำสาปรึเปล่า

"เข้าใจล่ะ ฉันจะไม่มีวันเชื่อหลุมพรางของปีศาจ และนายด้วย อย่าเชื่ออะไรที่ปีศาจพูด แค่เชื่อฉัน ฉันคนเดียว"

"มันก็ดีที่จะเชื่อในกันและกัน ฉันเดาว่าพวกนายต้องพึ่งมันจากนี้ไป เมื่อซาตานรู้ว่านายกำลังวางแผนกำจัดเขา ทุกอย่างจะแย่ลง ชีวิตพวกนายจะเหมือนอยู่ในนรก ฉันไม่ได้พูดให้กลัวนะ แต่เตือน นี่น่าตื่นเต้นชะมัด! ฉันเป็นหนึ่งในทีมไปไล่ผีด้วยได้ไหม นายบอกว่านายเห็นซาตานด้วยซ้ำ ฉันอยากเป็นเพื่อนสนิทนายแล้วตอนนี้"

มันเกิดขึ้นเมื่อไหร่ ผมไม่เคยเห็นซาตาน แค่พูดกับเสียงเขาเท่านั้น

"ซาตานไม่มีอะไรให้หลงใหลหรอก แต่ถ้านายอยากช่วย ฉันก็ยินดีเป็นอย่างมาก"

"งั้นเราไปโบสถ์กันหลังคาบสุดท้าย ฉันคุยกับบาทหลวงแล้วเรื่องหนังสือศาสนา นั่นอาจช่วยได้"

ผมได้ยินใครบางคนกรีดร้องอย่างเกรี้ยวกราด เสียงที่น่าสยดสยอง นั่นอาจเป็นของซาตาน แม้กระทั่งเจ้าปีศาจยังหวั่นไหว คนธรรมดาอย่างไรลีย์สามารถทำได้มากกว่าที่ผมคาดคิด

เขาเป็นเทวดาที่แท้จริง เขาสามารถทำให้ซาตานโกรธได้ ตอนนี้ผมเชื่อว่าเราจะผ่านมันไป ผมเชื่อในตัวเขาสุดหัวใจ

Furious โกรธจัด เกรี้ยวกราด

ไรลีย์โกรธแล้ว ถึงคราวซาตานโกรธบ้าง เด็กๆ เริ่มหาทางเอาตัวรอดกัน

ความเชื่อเรื่องซาตานมาจากการจับเล็กผสมน้อยของข้อมูลหลายๆ ที่ และตามหนังต่างๆ 

คิดว่าซาตานในรูปแบบนี้ดูเป็นรูปธรรมและเป็นเหตุเป็นผลที่สุด อ่ะ มาลุ้นกันต่อไป!
