There were so many people in New York than I remembered, last time I checked it was not this busy…well considering I came here long time ago. I knew it was getting more and more populated because of me watching human’s television shows in my free time but wowsers, look at the real thing! Look at all these people walking busily like salmons swimming against the current.
Actually, I was the one who was like a salmon swimming against the current. I didn’t know what to do first. I got 1 hour before the nameless human coming to the coffee shop and I will say this again, what kind of human goes to coffee shop at six in the morning? And did the shop even open at that time?
Well, it was time to find out.
At first I was writing my story here to rant. Yes, to rant. I intended to give my book to you as a gift but then I realized that you mortal human always dealt with people ranting in a daily basis on your ‘Facebook’ page, I still thought it was a stupid name, really. I thought about telling this to that dude Zuckerberg when his time was up.
Because I was so tired of riding train, I took a walk instead. I got a New York City map from Kat who apparently loved pretending to be a tourist when she worked her shift. It took me about 30 minutes to walk to the café because I was distracted by human fashion. It was more colorful than where I lived, more lively (because they were the living, hah!)
I read the sign, ‘Central Perk’. Yup, I came to the right place. If I didn’t see Rachel from Friends in there, I would be really disappointed. Then I noticed that the door was still closed, the Closed sign hanging loosely, the café had not opened yet. Well, I was earlier than the assigned time about 30 minutes, so my person had not come yet. Don’t panic, don’t panic. The place, date and time was right here in the book. Even though the name was illegible, the rest was fine. I had no need to be worried.
I spent that thirty minutes smoking, looking at the crowd walking past the cafe then looking back at the café behind me. The café was not so big, it was just a small café so it should be easy for me to see who entered the place. I had my eyes on the table next to the door, once the café opened I would order my coffee and sit at that table. I was thinking maybe I would write a list of people entering the place then crossing the one who least to be my human out. Great plan!
Suddenly, someone must have turned on the light, I guess it was the staffs preparing to open the place. I stared inside nervously and then someone was walking close to the door.
“Excuse me, were you waiting for this place to open?” A young man wearing a black apron opened the door, asking me while still standing inside.
“Yes, is it time?” I asked but the man just laughed brightly then said,
“Oh no, we’re not opened yet until 9 o’clock. I noticed you have been standing here for ten minutes now. I guess you can wait inside. I almost finish preparing the stuffs.” The man pointed at the coffee machine inside. I nodded and followed him.
10 minutes my ass, I was pretty sure I had been standing here at least 30 minutes. I remembered lighting my cigarettes more than two times.
Wait. 30 minutes?
It was 6:03 when I looked at the time on my wristwatch. 6:03!
It turned out I didn’t need to sit at the table next to the door, or write list of names waiting to see who’s going to be here because I already met the human. My human.
