contradiction
  • There is a myth that contradictions exist only to fulfill and to be fulfilled by one another — that lovers are two different pieces of the same one, cut in half but seek to complete each other. Sweet, romantic bullshit. Contradictions are contradictions. It is when his bright ginger hair spreads upon a white pillow, sometimes getting tangled with my own dark hair. It is in those 4 centimeters that mark only a little difference in our vertical dimension of existence, though the way his head tilts up when our lips meet seems to suggest more. It is his wrists that my fingers can wrap around them completely, his waist that my arm can hold and lift him up onto my shoulder at ease, and his smooth palms that are never meant to fit mine but so fine to be held; or we can pass physical contrasts that are too obvious. It is still in his laughter that shakes his whole body and brings me a smile ("You never laugh; you just chuckle ridiculously", he said). It is him who can rumble ceaselessly for hours and crack endlessly dirty jokes; I simply listen, or glare. If he looks at me, I am the one who looks away first at the rate of 3:1 (for he will turn right away in case our eyes accidentally meet, which I have no idea why). He hates physical activities (sex doesn't count, such a hypocrite), but I run five miles around the neighborhood every morning. He is apparently not an early riser; I wake up before sunrise. He is always late; I am set to be forever punctual. He loves putting on funny knitted hats; I wear a cap sometimes. Funny enough, we once wore the similar hoodie the first time we met. But underneath it, his clothes always look funny, if not peculiarly cute; I put on boring t-shirts all the time. The list can go on and on, filling pages. This is us. Sometimes we sync, sometimes we don't. Our contradictions are by no means fulfilling, since they do not contribute to something beneficial or change anything. We are two separate beings that exist at the same time and space, two souls wandering on earth. No more, no less. And we find comfort in this fact.
