First week of ELT

        On Tuesday 19th of January, it was my first day of this semester and the first time meeting the professor of English Language Teaching, Aj. Sirinit Chanawong. This week’s lecture started with the introduction of the course. The professor explained the course syllabus which consisted of primary components such as course description, learning outcomes, schedule, grading scale, assessment methods, etc. It was the first day of this class so the professor didn’t delve into the subject matter. She mostly talked about what we will study so we can achieve the learning outcomes. 

          I previously didn’t know much about teaching but in this class the professor talked about the role of ELT (English Language Teaching) which we have to learn about methods, approach, design, procedure in teaching. For example, the gestures or eye contact are also important while teaching and the use of verbs in objective is also important which we know more about the level of each verb that is used in the learning objective or learning outcomes. 

        We also had negotiated about our syllabus or we can call it ‘negotiated syllabus’ which the teacher and the learners have to negotiate about assignments, class works or scores to know if they are all agreed with the same plan. I think it’s a good idea for both of us because some teachers just designed the syllabus for themselves but they didn’t ask the learners if they were okay with it or not. Sometimes there were some points we disagreed with the teacher but we didn’t have a chance to discuss or negotiate them. 

         Everything that the professor talked about in this class seemed very new and hard for me because there were many details that I have to focus on and clearly understand in order to make the best performance when it comes to the peer teaching and actual teaching. In addition, I am not that confident and shy so I felt anxious and nervous if I could do it or not. However, I would pay attention to the class and try to understand the theories as much as I can. (Fighting!)
