26 — stay out
  • You stepped out of the bathroom and walked to the bed. You almost went to the dreamland when the wheeze sound was heard, and then an electricity went out.

'Oh, you must be kidding me, lights out at this hours?' You murmured to yourself.

The weather tonight was hot and humid. You sure couldn't sleep without air-conditioner, or at least a fan.

You glanced at the alarm clock on the bedside table, it was past midnight—on the weekday to say the least. You wouldn't want to crash in your friend's house at this time. You didn't want to disturb them in the middle of the night.

So you changed into a more going-out-able-ish clothes, grabbed your wallet and a book then walked out of the room. You decided to stay out for the night, or to the time lights back on again.

It seemed that all the building in your blocked were blackout. You walked to another block and found a 24-hours cafe not long after. You went it and ordered a cup of coffee, didn't care if it will make you stay awake all night.

    Or so you thought.

Coffee barely kept your eyes open. You might be too tired, or the book was too boring—you didn't know which of them might be the real reason.

You dozed off for the umpteenth times, this last time you almost made your head hit the table. but fortunately someone saved your forehead before it hot injured. You remembered he was the one who took your order, might be the owner of this coffee shop.

'If you are this sleepy, why don't you just go home?' You hinted the amused tone in his voice.

'My building got a power failure. I can't sleep with the hot air outside.' You groggily answered, wiping the trace of drool from the corner of your lips at the same time. You had nothing left to be embarrassed about right now.

'I guess the coffee is not a work for you. I have a better dose to be awake.'

'I'm considering about sleeping like a log here in public and embarrass myself more with my drool or you can help me by telling me what you have.'

'Besides the caffeine, someone to talk to helps too.'

'That's bad, my friends are all happily sleeping in their beds.'

'Well, you're like the only one left in my shop for the night. I can volunteer to be in the place of your friends here.'

    'Hmm?'

    'No service charge at all.'

You stared at him, then around the place. He was right—you were the only customer.

'If I don't have to pay more than this already cold coffee then.. okay?'
