We were both born in New Zealand, but neither of us think of this place as home. I spent just a wee bit of my life in Scotland, like he did in Prague. We both feel connected to those places more than here. It’s funny when so many immigrants want to stay here, when all the locals want to get away as far as they could.
The thing that annoys me is how he talks about Prague. It’s like the girl next door he fell in love with when he was a kid, knows her since forever, and wants to spend the rest of his life with.
I should be jealous of that city, but ironically, I feel the same with Scotland.
Neolithic Revolution happened 8500 BC. For the first time in history human learned to be domestic and plant things to eat. It’s 2017, and we are going backwards to the good old days when human were hunter-gatherers. Moving around when there was nothing left for them to keep being alive.
“Then why coming back?”
“I just can’t stay in the same place longer than 3 years, or I will feel like I’m a dying tree.”
He just can’t live here any longer, neither leave his hometown for the rest of his life.
I wish Prague was really a girl next door.
