and there they go,
life long dreams,
hopes,
frozen,
tamed—a fire no more.
-
the dark was a friend,
a comforting embrace,
drawing her in with endless tales
of worlds and realms beyond
the dark is a void,
cold, empty,
filled with voices
crushing, doubting
never-ending.
-
a squeeze,
a pang,
a crack
in the middle of her chest.
her mind thinks,
ignore it,
ignore it,
ignore it.
-
a glance into the mirror.
there is a clown staring back at her,
smiling,
trying hard to laugh,
to find the right time for a joke.
she looks away.
-
and she wonders,
how do you keep your fire
from turning to embers,
to ashes,
to nothing,
when the world is a storm that keeps on raging.
