31 — a barman
  • It was a very late night when you pushed the door of little coffee shop opened. It seemed you were the only customer.

You saw that there was a set of apple pie placed on a one particular bar seat. You walked pass and sat on the next three seat.

The barman was the only one you saw working here. You reckoned he was about early thirty. You noticed a flash of disappointment in his eyes when he saw you. You wondered why.

You ordered a glass of cocktail, watching silently as the man behind the bar work.

You see that he kept glancing at the clock on the opposite wall. He was surely expecting someone.

'You're waiting for someone?' Curiosity got the best of you, you could not keep your mouth from asking.

'Not really. I just hope that someone would come.'

'Oh, that someone is the owner of that apple pie right?' You sipped your cocktail.

'Yes. She always comes here 'round this time. But that was a month ago that she stopped coming.'

    'You don't have her contact?'

'No. Sadly I don't even have a courage to ask her name. I just foolishly wait for her every single day, with apple pie by my side.'

'I know that she would appreciate that, she can see your feeling for sure.'

'But she never do something too. You know, I almost die once. There was a man who want to eat her apple pie no matter what. He already pointed a gun to my face, just for a piece of this,' he nudged the plate.

'You must love her so much.'

'There's something about her that I can't describe, but it pulls me towards her. Strange much huh?'

    'Strange but captivated.'

    'I could say so.'

The two of you became silent. You focused on your drink, he on his work at hand.

You know that it was almost the closing time but you ordered another glass anyway. You wanted to wait for the mysterious girl with him. You hoped that today she might come.

*The story of barman is a part of 'The Piece of Apple Pie' by Nicholas Perferes—it's a screenplay for film student to study how to write the script.
Also, this is the end of my fictober entries (though I post this ending on the first day of November lol). For those of you who read my story, even just by coincident, you have my gratitude. It's my first time doing the writing project this long (and finished!). I hope you will like it much or less.
