Priyanka Chopra Addresses Nick Jonas Split Rumors After That Instagram Name Change
Priyanka Chopra described being in the public eye as a "very vulnerable feeling" after the Internet assumed she was divorcing husband Nick Jonas because she changed her name on Instagram.
Last November, the Internet exploded with speculation about the couple's relationship status after Priyanka updated her Instagram and Twitter handles from @PriyankaChopraJonas to @PriyankaChopra.
Now, in an interview with Vanity Fair, Priyanka described the online reaction as a "professional hazard" given her and her husband's illustrious careers, but revealed that it also left her feeling blue.
"It's a very vulnerable feeling, actually, that if I post a picture, everything that's behind me in that picture is going to be zoomed in on, and people are going to speculate," she told the outlet. "Because of the noise of social media, because of the prevalence that it has in our lives, I think it seems a lot larger than it is. I think that we give it a lot more credence in real life, and I don't think it needs that."
Nick also chimed in on the speculation surrounding their romance and how they've both worked to navigate hardships together over the last three years.
"We both know that public life is something that comes with what we do," he said. "But we've set real boundaries around our personal lives, our privacy, and worked really hard to create that little safe haven for ourselves with our friends and family."
Priyanka noted that, as her career has progressed, she's become "a lot more introverted" than in the past in an effort to prioritize herself and her mental health.
"I'm starting to protect myself a lot more because I realize how much [the entertainment business] takes out of you," she explained. "It takes a part of your soul, constantly trying to make sure that you say the right thing, do the right thing, dress the right way, not make a mistake, not trip because the whole world is going to watch. Or not fall when you're walking up on a red carpet or say something wrong or have a bad f--king day."
Priyanka also revealed her and Nick are planning for the future too. The actress, who has spoken about wanting to have children in the past, said that starting a family was "a big part" of the couple's dreams for the future, adding, "by God's grace, when it happens, it happens."
When asked if her and Nick would be alright with slowing down their thriving careers to raise a child, Priyanka added that she's definitely on board.
"I'm okay with that," she said. "We're both okay with that."
