
A Ukrainian photographer is in the spotlight online. The woman named Valeria Shashenok captures her daily life in a bunker via TikTok in the midst of the Russian invasion.
Reporting from the Daily Mail, Thursday (10/3/2022), Valeria uploads moments of cooking pasta to the streets every day to see her city destroyed by the Russian attack. It garnered more than 60 million views on the app.
This 20-year-old woman tells of her life underground after her house was bombed by Russian troops. He and his family lived in Chernihiv, where at least 33 civilians died.
Valeria uploaded a portrait of a building turned into rubble. She also shared videos of her new life, including cooking with canned and dry goods.
He tried to keep his spirits up and joked 'imagining himself in Italy' after cooking pasta. Valeria describes her underground shelter as a 'five-star hotel' and her mother as a 'Michelin-star chef'.
In one video, Valeria recorded herself being woken up by her father who joked that he called her a 'fat pig'. In another video, the Ukrainian woman says her dogs 'don't understand why they are now living underground'.
Valeria also joked that a freestanding metal tub was a 'jacuzzi for hot girls' and said she pretended to punch Putin while hitting a punching bag.
Valeria also recorded trips outside the bunker, including to a supermarket where most of the shelves were empty.
Heartbreaking footage also shows many buildings in the city turned to rubble, including a local cinema and many houses. One video shows a windowless building remaining.
"Today, Putin destroyed my house with a rocket while I was in a bomb shelter," he explained.
Valeria wrote, "The pictures I took while alive felt unreal with the video showing shards of glass strewn across the sidewalk, and people lining up outside shops."
"I create content on TikTok because I want everyone to know, this is not a Ukrainian problem, it's a world problem," he told the BBC. "I have a normal bomb shelter, it's like a little house in the basement, I live with my parents and my little dog."
In her most-viewed clip, with over 25 million views, Valeria captures one day of her life in her bunker. He used a hairdryer, showed his mother cooking, and said his father had turned their bunker into an office.
Valeria also goes to her family's house to get more stuff while showing footage of the buildings being bombed. "Look what Putin did with my city," he explained.
