Climb

We have been trying to climb up the unknown stair. Reaching our hands to the sky with the hope which we could grab a star. Riley helps me, so I can touch it. We were happy at that time. But in the end we can’t have it. I got thirty days to stay with my beloved human. A time goes by as fast as a shooting star. It’s time to let it go.

It’s three days before Halloween. Too short isn’t it?

“Riley, it’s useless. Please go home. I want to spend every minute with you.”

Riley, Thomas and I are in the church. They are kneeling in front of Jesus. Praying every paragraph which they find on the bible.

“I won’t give up.”

“Me too. Let us help you, Leon.” Thomas smiles to me and turns his head back to pray.

It’s shaking. Riley and Thomas hands. They afraid to lose me. Honestly, I’m afraid too. But I don’t want to see my human risk his life again. I want Riley to be alive, to be happy.

“Riley… I know you are listening. I am thankful for everything you did. Your delicious foods, your clean clothes, your lovely couple collars, your kind embraces, your gentle kisses and your feeling for me. You make my dream comes true. You are the best thing that has ever happened in my life. Let it be your memory.”

“Stop.”

His eyes are red. He tries so hard not to let the tear falls down.

“I’m sorry. I don’t mean to hurt you.”

“Can you stop saying those things? I can’t...” Riley shakes his head, looks away from me.

“All the neighbors are celebrating the Halloween. We should decorate your yard too. I don’t like pumpkin. But it looks cute when humans curve its face. I also love maple leaves. Thomas. Do you want to have a pajamas party? Let’s make it. Go go.” I grab Riley hands. Pull him to stand. But he pulls me down instead. He hugs me tightly. It feels like I can bury myself in his chest.

“I can’t celebrate the day you will be gone.”

“No, we celebrate the days we have been spending together.”

“You are mean, Leon. You make me fall and left me behind. Why do I have to love you this much? It’s just a month. Why is it so painful? I can’t accept this. I can’t see you disappear. I have to talk to Satan.” Riley pushes me out from his embrace. His determined eyes look around.

“What? No! Don’t talk to him.”

“God doesn’t listen to me. I have to find another way.”

“Satan will take your life.”

“I don’t care.”

“But I do! Don’t do something stupid! I’m very angry now.” I hit his shoulder. Riley smiles. That is the saddest smile I have ever seen from him.

“My stupid cat calls me stupid? Yeah, maybe I am. So stupid that I don’t know how to save your life. Don’t know how to let you go. Don’t know how to feel about all of this. More importantly I don’t know how to give up. Even if you are gone, I will still continue to bring you back. I’m that stupid.”

"..."

Now I’m the one who want to cry. Riley is so stubborn. But the love he gives me, makes me speechless.

“How lovely you are.” The terrifying voice which I don’t want to hear again is back. Satan is coming. Although we are in the church?

“What with that sound? Is it god? ”

“Do you hear it too, Thomas? ” Riley asks.

All of us hear Satan’s voice. What is his plan? Why does Thomas hear it?

“I can give Leon a life as a human. You just have to make a deal with me, Riley.”

“I don’t want it.” I quickly grab Riley’s hand, shake my head in refusion.

“Sorry, Leon. I do want it.”

“I love your fierce soul. But to take your life is easy. I want to trade Thomas’ life with Leon. Will you give it to me, Thomas? ”

What? Why does it turn out like this?

“Me? ”

“You don’t have to. I will make a deal myself. Don’t touch him or Leon.” Riley pulls both Thomas and me behind his back in protective gesture.

“But why Thomas? ” I wonder.

“He doesn’t have any sin. Never kill, cheat, lie or even a slight of bad thoughts. The purest person who isn’t a baby. If I can consume his soul, my power will be greater.”

“That’s new. I don’t know I’m a good person. Interesting.” Thomas murmurs.

“Good or bad. I won’t give my friend or my boyfriend to you. The Only thing you can take is me.”

“But I’m OK.”

“Thomas! ” Riley and I instantly shout his name.

“Don’t you know I’m an orphan? I don’t have family, lover or any close friend except you two.”

“I will kill myself and end this thing if you do it! ” I can’t be quite. I have met Thomas nearly for a week. He helps us a lot. He is a kind friend. And he is an only human friend I have too. I can’t let another good person involve in this mess.

“The three of you smell delicious. I would like to take all.”

“Oh, will you take it all? ”

Riley’s voice changes. He isn’t angry or panics anymore. What is he thinking?

“What do you mean? ” Even Satan can’t read his thought?

“I will give my soul, Leon and Thomas to you. Treading with one wish. Sounds great, isn’t it? But you have to promise you will grant it whatever I ask.”

“You try to play with me, don’t you? ”

“Are you afraid? The great devil is afraid of a tiny human. Embarrassing.”

“I’m not! Deal! Make your wish now. Only one wish. And I will snatch your soul.”

Satan is angry. We can feel his anger in the air.

“Do you believe in me? Leon? Thomas? ” Riley looks at us.

“Of course we do. Make your wish.” Both of us agree to hang our life on the Satan’s claw. In the faith of Riley. Our superman.

Let’s cross our fingers and pray. This time Riley will climb up and drag Satan down to hell.

"ไรลีย์...ผมรู้ว่าคุณฟังอยู่ ผมขอบคุณสำหรับทุกอย่างที่คุณทำ อาหารแสนอร่อยของคุณ เสื้อผ้าสะอาดสะอ้านของคุณ ปลอกคอคู่ที่น่ารักของคุณ อ้อมกอดแสนใจดีของคุณ จูบที่อ่อนโยนของคุณ และความรู้สึกที่คุณมีให้ คุณทำให้ฝันของผมเป็นจริง คุณเป็นสิ่งที่ดีที่สุดที่เกิดขึ้นในชีวิตของผม ให้มันเป็นความทรงจำเถอะนะ"

"เพื่อนบ้านทุกคนกำลังฉลองวันฮาโลวีน เราน่าจะตกแต่งสวนของคุณด้วยนะ ผมไม่ชอบฟักทองเท่าไหร่ แต่มันน่ารักเวลาที่มนุษย์ทำหน้าให้มัน ผมชอบใบเมเปิ้ลด้วย โทมัส นายอยากมีปาร์ตี้ชุดนอนใช่ไหม มาจัดกันเถอะ ไป ไป" ผมคว้ามือไรลีย์ ดึงให้เขายืน แต่เขาดึงผมลงไปแทน เขากอดผมแน่น รู้สึกราวกับผมสามารถฝังตัวเองลงไปในอกเขาได้

"ฉันฉลองวันที่นายจะไปไม่ได้หรอกนะ"

"ไม่ใช่ เราฉลองวันที่เราใช้ร่วมกันมาต่างหาก"

"นายใจร้าย ลีออน นายทำให้ฉันหลงรักและทิ้งฉันไว้ข้างหลัง ทำไมฉันต้องรักนายขนาดนี้ มันแค่เดือนเดียวเอง ทำไมมันถึงได้เจ็บมาก ฉันรับมันไม่ได้ ฉันไม่อาจเห็นนายหายไป ฉันต้องคุยกับซาตาน" ไรลีย์ผลักผมออกจากอ้อมกอด ดวงตาจริงจังของเขามองไปรอบๆ

"อะไร ไม่! อย่าคุยกับเขา"

"พระเจ้าไม่ฟังฉัน ฉันต้องหาทางอื่น"

"ซาตานจะเอาชีวิตคุณ"

"ฉันไม่สน"

"แต่ผมสน! อย่าทำอะไรโง่ๆ นะ! ผมโกรธมากเลยตอนนี้" ผมตีไหล่ของเขา ไรลีย์ยิ้ม เป็นรอยยิ้มที่เศร้าที่สุดที่ผมเคยเห็นจากเขา

"แมวโง่บอกว่าฉันโง่? ใช่ อาจจะ ฉันโง่ที่ไม่รู้ว่าจะช่วยชีวิตนายยังไง ไม่รู้ว่าจะปล่อยนายไปได้ยังไง ไม่รู้ว่าควรรู้สึกแบบไหนกับเรื่องนี้ และที่สำคัญที่สุด ฉันไม่รู้ว่าต้องยอมแพ้ยังไง แม้ว่านายจะไปแล้ว ฉันก็จะยังคงพานายกลับมา ฉันโง่ขนาดนั้นเลยล่ะ"

"..."

ตอนนี้เป็นผมเสียเองที่อยากร้องไห้ ไรลีย์ดื้อมาก แต่ความรักที่เขามีให้ ทำให้ผมพูดไม่ออก

"น่ารักอะไรอย่างนี้" เสียงที่น่าหวาดหวั่นซึ่งผมไม่อยากได้ยินอีกกลับมา ซาตานกำลังมา แม้ว่าเราจะอยู่ในโบสถ์?

"นั่นเสียงอะไร พระเจ้าเหรอ? "

"นายได้ยินเหมือนกัน โทมัส? " ไรลีย์ถาม

พวกเราทุกคนได้ยินเสียงซาตาน แผนของเขาคืออะไร ทำไมโทมัสถึงได้ยิน

"ฉันชอบจิตวิญญาณที่ดุเดือดของนาย แต่เอาชีวิตนายนั้นมันง่าย ฉันอยากแลกชีวิตของโทมัสกับชีวิตของลีออน นายให้ฉันได้ไหม โทมัส? "

อะไรนะ ทำไมมันกลายเป็นแบบนี้

"ฉัน?"

"นายไม่ต้องทำ ฉันจะทำข้อตกลงเอง อย่าแตะต้องเขาหรือลีออน" ไรลีย์ดึงเราสองคนไปอยู่ด้านหลังในท่าทางปกป้อง

"แต่ทำไมถึงเป็นโทมัส" ผมสงสัย

"นายไม่รู้เหรอว่าฉันเป็นเด็กกำพร้า? ฉันไม่มีครอบครัว คนรัก หรือเพื่อนสนิทยกเว้นนายสองคน"

"ฉันจะฆ่าตัวตายและหยุดเรื่องนี้ถ้านายทำมัน" ผมอยู่เงียบๆ ไม่ได้ ผมเจอโทมัสมาร่วมอาทิตย์ เขาช่วยเราเยอะมาก เขาเป็นเพื่อนที่ใจดี และเขาเป็นเพื่อนมนุษย์เพียงคนเดียวที่ผมมีเหมือนกัน ผมไม่อาจปล่อยให้คนดีต้องเข้ามามีส่วนร่วมกับเรื่องยุ่งเหยิงนี่อีก

"พวกนายสามคนมีกลิ่นที่น่าอร่อย ฉันอยากจะเอาไปทั้งหมดเลย"

"โอ้ งั้นเอาไปหมดเลยไหม"

เสียงของไรลีย์เปลี่ยน เขาไม่ได้โกรธหรือวิตกกังวลอีก เขากำลังคิดอะไรอยู่น่ะ

"หมายความว่าอะไร" แม้แต่ซาตานก็อ่านใจเขาไม่ได้เหรอ?

"ฉันจะให้วิญญาณของฉัน ลีออน และโทมัส แลกกับคำขอหนึ่งข้อ ฟังดูดีใช่ไหม แต่นายต้องสัญญาว่าจะทำให้มันเป็นจริงไม่ว่าฉันจะขออะไร"

"นายพยายามจะเล่นกับฉันงั้นสิ"

"กลัวเหรอ? ปีศาจที่ยิ่งใหญ่ กลัวมนุษย์ตัวจ้อย ช่างน่าอับอาย"

"ฉันเปล่า! ตกลง! บอกคำขอนายมาเดี๋ยวนี้ แค่คำขอเดียว แล้วฉันจะเอาวิญญาณพวกนายไป"

ซาตานกำลังโกรธ พวกเรารู้สึกได้ถึงความโกรธของเขาในอากาศ

"นายเชื่อในตัวฉันไหม ลีออน? โทมัส? " ไรลีย์มองมาที่พวกเรา

"แน่นอนเราเชื่อ ขอเลย" พวกเราทั้งคู่ตกลงที่จะแขวนชีวิตเราไว้ในอุ้งมือซาตาน ด้วยความเชื่อในตัวไรลีย์ ซุปเปอร์แมนของเรา

มาไขว้นิ้วอธิษฐาน คราวนี้ไรลีย์จะปีนขึ้นไป และลากซาตานลงนรก
