After Death, Before Birthpokchanymph
16 The Watcher
  • “Good news, bad news or super bad news?” I asked Kat as I entered the living room. It was funny how we still call it living room down here while we were…undead, not living.

    Okay, that was lame. Sorry.

“Bad,” Kat said, turning off the latest game player she just got last week and changed to normal tv program instead. “Look, it’s Dead Poets Society again. I love the movie but it’s third time this week.” Kat pointed at Robin Williams’ face on the screen, rolling her eyes. I totally agreed with her, after He finished his time up there and moved down here, the industry here brought his films back to promote his name even though the guy said he’d done with the acting job.
“I didn’t bring you dinner, I just bought meat and other stuff.”
“Gosh, you’re late and you didn’t bring the ready-to-eat meal. I should've ordered pizza.”
I shrugged, throwing myself on the couch beside her.
    "What about good news?"
    "I'm back."
Kat rolled her eyes again. "I guess your super bad news may or may not have to do with that human you have to reap their soul,"
"Yup," I said, popping the p sound. Kat pated my head. I liked it when people played with my hair but I wasn't gonna tell anyone about it except here, maybe I have to burn what I wrote here? Maybe. Sometimes I was too annoyed about my long hair, its length was long enough I could braid it, but sometimes I was not. Maybe cats were like that, sometimes they looked too grumpy to be petted, wait, did I just compare myself with cats?

"So how was it?" Kat got up, saying, "I'm making pasta."
I showed the map that the barista gave me to Kat before she went to the kitchen. Kat narrowed her eyes, "What is that?"
"Apparently there're more than five cafés with the same name in NYC and I may or may not got the wrong one."
"Gee, Em, only you..." Kat said from the kitchen. I can only grumbled from the living room, hoping she would not here. "It's not my fault that the dude who gave me this guy name wrote some properly shit not just the café's name. Plus, he should've write a bigger name so it would not have disappeared easily with the coffee stain."
"It's your fault for being clumsy." Of course Kat heard that. Right, it wasn't like that coffee stain magically appeared or anything. It came from her coffee but I was not gonna complain about that or else I might get hexed.

I watched the movie even though I complained about it while Kat coming to the living room with dinner. We did have dining table but we rarely ate there. Kat did use it on her first month but when she saw me use the coffee table in the living room she just naturally followed me.
"So what are you gonna do? Wait for someone to die and reap their soul at the end of the month."
"Maybe? Actually I thought there might be other way to do this."
    "How?"
"Go to see the one responsible for this shit, The Watcher."

"No," Rahul, the watcher who was responsible for giving me names said while he nonchalantly sitting on his comfortable chair in his office while me and Kat looking at him with disbelieve.
"What do you mean 'no'?" I asked walking towards him. He twirled his pen, not looking me in the eyes.
"I mean no, I can't remember the owner of the missing name."
