14 Going Home

  • I stared at seven or eight marks at least on the map showing where the café called Central Perk was located. Unfortunately my book or the watcher was not that informative because I only got the name of the café, city, state and country written after the blurred name. I had no way to know where my soon to be dead human was.

You might ask, why was the system here this horrible? Human being had been dying and living for years now so it shouldn’t be this confusing or if it was, there must be some way to solve this problem. My problem should not be the first one.
Well, bad news, the first grim reaper who spilled their drink on the book was me. And if there was someone like that no one knew.

“So…still wanna wait for Rachel?” The barista asked. I might look defeated because it seemed like he pitied me by mistaken me for being a die-hard fan of Friends.
“I think I better find my Rachel at other cafés first. I’ll come back tomorrow though, so don’t forget to bring the rest of the comics here,” I said, waving my hand with the map before rapidly walked out of the shop. I didn’t look back to see if he was curious to see if I really was going to other café or not.

I stood there, at the sidewalk, thinking that I would never find the human at this rate. It was already passed the time of the first time I’d see them…so what should I do?

So I decided to go home.
Don't be alarmed, I was not giving up on my job...I knew perfectly well what would happen if a reaper neglected his job. It was just that I had no plan and no friends there, so I better went back to where I could use my head properly. That guy from the café would not disappear now. If he really was the human I was looking for, I could still go back to him but if he wasn't...I was so fucked.

The trip to home was not that brutal comparing to the trip this morning because a lot of people went up here and stayed for a whole month, meanwhile the world down there was peacefully quiet...man, I should have quit the job and enjoy the quiet days down there.

I tapped my card at the scanner to get out of the station. People walked to the opposite way, trying to get in the station to get to the Upperworld.

I chose the farthest seat from the driver, as far as possible. You would think I was a charming person considering you got to see my charming personality here but most people didn't. I found a lot of company intolerable, fortunately some of them were barely tolerable, like my roommate whom I am going to introduce to you soon.

I looked out at the window, it seemed like this big city was sleeping, waiting for its wake up time. Some cars passing by to get out of the city. October was like a hibernation for the city, some shop still opened, like convenient stores and café (We did have café down here. We were not uncivilized, okay?). Well, that reminded me, it was my turn to get groceries before going back to my place.

Today was so long. I just wanted to go home.
