When Will I Be Able to Stream The Batman?

Following a long theatrical release, The Batman is coming to streaming starting on March 22nd. Though part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Sony’s streaming deals will keep the film off Disney+ initially. Instead, you’ll have to rent it on Amazon Prime, iTunes, Google Play, or Vudu. You can even pre-order it right now.

How Can I Stream The Batman For Free?

As of now, Sony hasn’t announced which streamers The Batman will be playing on. Since the franchise has a pre-existing deal with Starz, though, it stands to reason that they’ll snag the film first, and it’ll be on the platform this summer. So if you’re a Starz subscriber, you’re in luck. And if not – you still have time to sign up! And in the meantime, keep an eye on Sony’s page for the film to catch any streaming updates.

    What Is The Batman About?

The Batman is a 2022 American superhero film based on the DC Comics character Batman. Produced by DC Films, 6th & Idaho, and Dylan Clark Productions, and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, it is a reboot of the Batman film franchise. The film was directed by Matt Reeves, who wrote the screenplay with Peter Craig. It stars Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne / Batman alongside Zoë Kravitz, Paul Dano, Jeffrey Wright, John Turturro, Peter Sarsgaard, Andy Serkis, and Colin Farrell. Set in his second year of fighting crime, the film sees Batman uncover corruption in Gotham City while pursuing the Riddler (Dano), a serial killer who targets Gotham's elite.

Development began after Ben Affleck was cast as Batman in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) in 2013. Affleck signed on to direct, produce, co-write, and star in The Batman, but had reservations about the project and dropped out. Reeves took over and reworked the story, removing the DCEU connections. He sought to explore Batman's detective side more than previous films, drawing inspiration from 1970s films and comics such as "Year One" (1987) and Ego (2000). Pattinson was cast in May 2019, with further casting in late 2019. Principal photography took place in the UK and Chicago between January 2020 and March 2021.

The Batman premiered in London on February 23, 2022, and will be theatrically released on March 4. It was delayed twice from an initial June 2021 release date due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The film received positive reviews for the performances, action sequences, and story, though some criticized the length.[5][6] It is intended to launch a Batman shared universe, with two sequels planned and two spin-off television series in development for HBO Max.

When and Where 'The Batman' Will Be Available to Watch Online

The Batman is one of the year's most anticipated films, with millions around the world waiting to find out how Robert Pattinson does as Bruce Wayne.

The three-hour epic, co-starring Zoë Kravitz, Paul Dano and Colin Farrell as Catwoman, The Riddler and The Penguin respectively, is coming to theaters on Friday, March 3. This comes after multiple delays to the movie's release date—including a COVID scare for Pattinson.

After the DC Comics and Warner Bros. movie comes to theaters, the countdown starts for the movie's release date on streaming services.

    Where Will 'The Batman' Stream?

Sorry, Netflix subscribers—as The Batman is a Warner Bros. release, it will come to the WarnerMedia streaming service, HBO Max.

The film will be available on that service in all the territories where HBO Max is currently available. A full list is on the HBO Max website, but it includes multiple countries in Latin America and Europe including Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Denmark, Mexico, Spain, as well as the U.S.

Where it streams in other countries will vary. In the U.K. for example, it is expected on Now Cinema due to its existing deal with Warner. In Canada, meanwhile, Crave seems like the most likely streaming destination for the movie.

    When Will 'The Batman' Stream?
The streaming release date for the movie is less certain, though there is some information that can help us work out a rough release date.

In 2021, Warner announced that all of its movies would come to HBO Max at the same time that they went to cinemas, which meant that films like Dune, The Matrix Resurrections and The Suicide Squad went straight to streaming.

After many box office watchers cited this to be a reason why several Warner movies underperformed in theaters, the company decided to change its release strategy for 2022. That means that The Batman will not be coming to HBO Max right away.

This year, Warner Bros has made a deal with Regal Cinemas owner Cineworld that means that films will play in theaters exclusively for 45 days.

What does this mean for the streaming release date of The Batman? It means that it will be at least 45 days before The Batman comes to HBO Max. This means that the earliest that the film will be available to watch online will be April 17, 2021.

In October, HBO Max confirmed that Warner Bros films will be streaming on their service after 45 days, at least in Europe. In a statement, HBO Max EMEA (Europe, the Middle East and Africa) general manager Christina Sulebakk said: "I have another amazing piece of news to drop. For the first time, in the Nordics at launch, and next year in Spain, Portugal and central and eastern Europe, HBO Max will make Warner Bros films available on the platform just 45 days after their theatrical release."

HBO Max is currently available in Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Spain and Andorra, which means those territories (and likely others in North and South America) will get the film in mid-April. The streamer is also set to expand to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia and Slovenia in 2022, meaning those territories will also soon be able to watch The Batman online on HBO Max.
