  • Sex Education 2019 (season 1)

Channeling his Sex Therapist mother, inexperienced teen Otis decides to set up a Sex Therapy clinic at school for the hopeless students of Moordale High. Get ready for love, laughs, lube, and the best time of their lives.

    ( Aimee / Jackson / Maeve / Otis / Eric )
    ( Otis & Maeve / Eric / Aimee & Adam )

How many times have we seen high school comedy tv show? The answer is "A LOT". And how many times have we seen high school comedy which specific related to sex educate? Sex Education probably be the first. (chewing gum doesn't count) If you watch it superficial, sex education is just another bunch of chaotic twelve grade student causing trouble where they shouldn't. But if you watch it closely, it's something new.

I'm not gonna lie. I've watched so many coming of age movies. The time of changing has always been impressive. Sex education is slightly different. It is the coming of age, just not for every character. Most develop, some didn't. For the characters that be able to step over their issue, they are ready for the next chapter that is to come. I wish absolute worse for some characters that couldn't. Good luck stuck in your hatred. Bullies could be changed. Narcissistic might be not.

One thing that sex education keep telling again and again is to embrace everything that you have. Why try to blend in or deny a part of yourself so that you could be just like everyone else. Keep pushing yourself up to someone else's standard and for what? For that high class bully gangster at school will take you in as their peon? ENOUGH. The life is yours. Go make your own choices. A good friend doesn't force another friend to do something that is against their advantage. There are a lot of people surround themselves with noxious environment, keep telling themselves everyday "I'm okay", hoping that one day the toxicant maybe change, they may respect you as a human being and finally treat you as you deserve. But guess what? They won't! Because you'll never realize how toxic they are until you finally walk away from them. Give yourself something good something nice as you wanted. You earn it.

"It's better not being a mom at all than being a bad one"

Firstly, I'm not amplifying this scene to support any action that takes life. There are a lot of protection. We should if we could. But if you couldn't, that's okay. A part of me always jealous every countries that abortion is legally. There should be nothing ashamed of walking into a clinic seeking for help. There should always be another option near to dead end. I see abortion clinic as a last hope. If there was another choice rather than that I believe everyone would go for it. Except that there wasn't. Above all we are a human, human are allowed to makes mistake sometimes. Human can choose to end their mistake right here right now or carrying one of the worst mistake human is capable of and let their problem cause another problem to the others in the future. That's why an old lady at the clinic tells Maeve - It's better not being a mom at all than being a bad one. If you're not ready to be a mother then don't. Don't be a bad one. It takes a lot to raise kid right. And if you couldn't do it. Adoption is another choice. There is and always will be, a better option for every mistake. Just remember to not let your own problem today become problem of the others in the future.

Otis's mother is a sex therapist. So he pick up some of the trick from his mom and give it to other kids at school. He and Maeve call it "a clinic". Students pay for Otis to listens and help them. Turn out, there are a lots of clients than they expected. Meanwhile, Otis also has his own issue to deal with.

Before everything there were only him and his best friend Eric. They always be together. Eric got bullied at school by Adam, because he is gay. And after Maeve stepped into their lives, seems like she takes all the time they ever spent together. That is typical. Every time when the third person involves with the two best friends, their friendship has to collapse, every time. Otis has to keep a balance between both Maeve and Eric. That may not sound like a big deal because we aren't kids anymore. But imagine if you are 15 years old and you have to choose. Now that's a huge problem.

    ( Otis / Eric / Aimee / Jackson )
    ( Maeve / Adam / Ola / Lily )

Sex education deserves 10/10 as the story could maintain perfectly balance between sex educate and personal issue without dropping during the whole show. It is a series about high school mess but it's not like any you've seen before. Honestly I don't know how they can write the cruelness truthful daily life problem into a series that we all can watch. But be careful to always wear a headphone meanwhile. Lots of unexpected scene come without warning.

My favorite scene is Otis and Eric prom dance. Where Otis made a mistake and he wants to make it up for Eric. Even best friend can fight too. But it's important to apologize and not letting precious friendship go away. Friends forgive each other. What matters than the anger and stupid ego is trust and love. We never know what happened behind the curtain so don't take that our friend's problem is less important than ours. Especially the time when they come to us. The only reason your friend run to you is because they trusted you completely. Trust is hard to earn and easily destroy. Be their comfort zone when they need you the most. For that they are willing to do the same in return.
