Internship in Bremen, Germany 2019Beam Chunyanuch
WEEK 01
  • DAY 01 (03/06)

    This is the first day of working at the University of Bremen but not the first day that I arrived Germany. I arrived on 31 May and organized every needed on daily life such as house, train ticket and sim card. 

    Michael bring us to the Fab Lab room and give the key for us to entrance whenever we want. We also meet Iris and Nadine. Nadine is the one who take care about our kindergarten project. She explain the detail and background of the project for us. It is call SEEDs Project.

    Nadine also show some example of toy that already use for the children to us and let us to adapt and design more.

    • We make the appointment again tomorrow at 10 am.

    • For today we need to research about another project in SEEDs project and research about the learning skill of kindergarten for adapt in our stuff to let the children interesting and fun.



  • DAY 02 (04/06)

    We meet Nadine at 10 am. to discuss more about the scope of our project. She also show us the stuff room that have every equipment we need. And if we need other stuff that do not have in that room we can ask her to order for us.

    • We make the appointment to send the first idea of us on this Friday, 7 June.

    • We will meet the kindergarten 2 week from now about 19 June.

    Here, they have a meeting every Tuesday for talking and discussing everything including work and not work. For today they do not talk any about work, just eating some cake and talking about place for us to traveling. I think it was a welcome meeting.

    • From our brainstrom today, we get the first idea that we will create the Smart magnetic blocks like the detail in this proposal.


  • DAY 03 (05/06)

    We start the day by discuss more about the design of our project. One of us present the idea about the jigsaw for learn about basic logic of code. So, we write up another proposal for summary this idea. 


    But we think the first idea about Smart Magnetic Blocks would work better. So, we keep going on it. 

    • We design how the block should be for effort when arrange the system inside and connect each other.

    • We start create our block by using Tinkercad for designing for 3D print. And put the file in Ultimaker Cura, the program for control the 3D printer. 




    But it did not finish before we need to leave the room so, we let it print and decide to see it tomorrow morning.

    • Michael also recommend us to try the laser printer by design on Inksacpe Program. He show some basic tutorial to use it but we did not try it yet.
  • DAY 04 (06/06)

    The 3D print that we let it print yesterday is have some problem so, it was finish only half of it. But we can see the overall of it and we think it was too big.


    • So, we redesign it again. 
    • We find more equipment to list the equipment we need in summary 
    • and also, make the presentation slide to present our idea to Nadine tomorrow morning.

    • We design the function and all equipment in our project in roughly.

    Again, we have to let the 3D print and can see the finishing tomorrow. We change the printer to Ultimaker 2+.


  • DAY 05 (07/06)

    We meet Nadine at 10 am. and present the work to her. We get 

            • She advises us to use another magnet type that is smaller and more powerful. It's call Neodymium Magnet.

            • She seems to prefer 3D print than laser cut because it can use to make the smooth corner for the shape.

            • She wants our blocks can connected to the lego.

            • Be careful about the harmful to the children.


            • Next appointment is Thursday 13 June 2019.



              And the new design that we let it print yesterday is finished but the hole is thru wall that was not we want. We want the hole like the above one on every side.



              We try the Laser Cut. Using Makercase.com to build the box and decorate the hole by Inkscape. It is vary fast.




              We start to redesign our blocks again. Using 3D print.


              The bottom that we design for connecting to the lego.

              We use the VisiCut program for laser cutting the other blocks before back home.
