Film Diary : OKJA (2017)
  • "I want to go home with Okja."

    Directed by Bong Joon Ho
Starring Tilda Swinton, Paul Dano, Jake Gyllenhaal, Seo-Hyun Ahn, Steven Yeun, Lily Collins

    *****

Just some scattered thoughts and random opinions passing by...

    • First of all, I wanna say that I laughed and cried thrice through the entire film. This friendship between a countryside girl and her bigger friend is so sentimental and makes me so emotionally attached to this CGI creature.

    • A MUST-WATCH !!!

    • SOME FRIENDS ARE WORTH FIGHTING FOR

    • I think Okja is looks more like hippos than pigs.

    • Mija (Seo-Hyeon Ahn) is such a young, pure-minded, and courageous BADASS girl. She is different and got a heroine's soul who risks EVERYTHING to brings her best friend home, even if it causes her breaking a glass door or chasing down and climbing a truck!

    • Tilda Swinton is amazing as always. She greatly portrayed the weird role of Lucy Mirando, a CEO of the Mirando Corporation. (I literally hate her with that teeth braces in at the beginning lmao)

    • Jake Gyllenhaal as Mirando spokesman and zoologist Dr. Johnny Wilcox is so hysterical and insanely cracked here! The way he uses his high-pitched voice along with his kinky acts (remembering a moment when he spreading his legs on stage) make me feel a little bit uncomfortable! Anyway, that was such a good acting though.

    • Paul Dano as Jay is sweet and calm... but don't make him angry, otherwise you will be beaten!

    • The plot is so Spielberg's, combining reality with metaphor, that's why I like it.

    • I love the ALS gang. I wanna watch their spin-off. Also a prequel of Mija and her grandpa raising a baby Okja. DO IT!
    "Buckle! Buckle!"
    • TRANSLATIONS ARE SACRED!

    • Lily Collins' reddish hair is pretty cool and always catches my eyes.

    • Bong Joon Ho confirmed that Silver and Blond are definitely a couple! I like how he puts the LGBTQ issues in a genuine way, yeah, this is how it should be.

      • All scenes in the lab make me so fucking depressed. And all scenes at a massive slaughterhouse brings tears to my eyes.

      • The truck driver who always be like "I literally don't give a shit!" is my favourite. Watch until after end-credits then you'll see him again in a new duty :)
"They fucked. Not me. They fucked up."

    Lastly, I'll give you THIS

    Well played, Bong Joon Ho!

    *****

"Okja isn't about the righteousness of veganism, it's about the horrors of capitalism and how it compares to sustainable farming."

After watching this film makes me wanna go vegan for like 10 minutes, then I realised I can't live without meat so I'm really sorry.
