Let's Talk About FilmsPieces of Mind
Film Diary : SPLIT (2016)
  • "Let us show them what we can do. Let us show them how powerful we can be."

    Directed by M. Night Shyamalan
Starring James McAvoy, Anya Taylor-Joy, Betty Buckley

    *** SPOILER ALERT ***

This is not a review. It's kinda I-write-what-I-want stuff!

    • I came for James, but stayed for the film.

    • First of all, how amazing James McAvoy is! I like the way he conveys all his distinct characters so perfectly, as well as Anya Taylor-Joy (Casey Cooke) and Betty Buckley (Dr. Karen Fletcher). Anya's acting is pure gold, I love the way she expresses anything she feels with her eyes.

    • This film is based on a true story of Billy Milligan, a man who had 24 personalities.

    • The story is about three teenage girls are kidnapped by a man with 23 different personalities named Kevin, and they must escape before the 24th dreadful personality called 'the Beast' appears.

    • In case you didn't know, DID is Dissociative Identity Disorder, which formerly known as multiple personality disorder or MPD. It's a mental disorder that's likely caused by a repetitive physical, sexual, or emotional abuse during childhood.

    • There's an arguing on the internet... So many people are boycotting this film because they thought it making the people with DID looks frightening and harmful. I'm so sick of it and COMPLETELY DON'T UNDERSTAND. I mean, everyone knows that the story is just a fiction based on a true story right? and it's OBVIOUSLY a thriller/horror thing. So everything you've seen in the film wasn't an accurate representation of DID, and it absolutely won't make me misapprehend the people with DID at all. Then Why so serious?

    • Kevin got 23 personalities (plus the beast, so it's 24) and the advertising always says that James will play all the 23 but he doesn't, he plays only 8. But it's still impressive, right? (Certainly it is.)

    • Kevin, Dennis, Patricia, Hedwig, Barry, Orwell, Jade, and the Beast are 8 personalities that James plays. All of them are great, but I like a nine-year-old Hedwig the most!

    "et thetera!"
    • Kevin was born inhuman with the powers in the first place, it buried deep inside himself but he didn't know, so he ('he' at this point isn't the real Kevin, it's Dennis, actually.) thought that 'the beast' was another personality and he wants to liberate it.

    • The beast is unbreakable. Yes, unbreakable, if you know what I really mean...

    • All that you should do is keep shouting "Kevin Wendell Crumb!" even louder.

    • I feel truly sorry for Casey. Those flashbacks are full of symbols, including that 'come be an animal with me.' scene... Though it's not too explicit, but we all know what it really means. A sexual abuse.

    • The chasing scene when Casey meets the beast made my heart skipped a beat.

    • The last scene when Kevin shown up in front of the mirror with every distinct personalities talking to each other really impressed. James did it great!

    • Just listen... these soundtracks are something that literally rattle your nerves.

    "The monster is real."
