After Death, Before Birthpokchanymph
17 Po-ta-to, Po-ta-to
  • “I remember that it was a young man though,” Rahul said, still acting nonchalant. I couldn’t believe this guy was responsible for most of my jobs. There were other watchers out there who could be my watcher, take Primrose, that cute girl whom I bumped in to the bar near downtown a lot. She was cute and had good-mannered (and smelled good, but forgot I ever said this).

“So…that’s it?” Kat asked. Rahul turned his head to her and nodded. "You know that people die everyday right? I can't remember everyone of them. Imagine you have to peel a lot of potatoes. Will you be able to remember every potato you have peeled?"
While this guy had reason for not remembering the human I found it annoying that he compared human's soul with potato. This dude was weird. No matter how much he looked kinda cool with that suit and tie...

Talking about suit and tie, I couldn't believe this guy wearing suit and tie like a uniform. Look at me! I wore hoodies, ripped jeans and sneakers as my uniform. Not what you had in mind for a grim reaper, right? With my shoulder-length hair that I forgot to comb sometimes I looked a lot like a homeless. No wonder that women on a train yesterday didn’t want me to be near her son.

“Then what you normally do when you need to send us names?” I asked, crossing my arms. Kat walked to the chair in front of Rahul’s desk and sat, so I did the same and sat beside her.
“Well, I watch,” Rahul rolled his eyes like it was the stupid thing to ask, duh I knew you watched, you stupid face with perfect teeth. “On my screen,” Rahul snapped his fingers then his office turned dark, and a few screens lightened. By few screens I meant at least 20 of them had shown moving pictures; there were like televisions in front of electronic stores that showing many programs simultaneously but these, these were—
“These are souls I need to watch and write names on the system then transfer to your stupid books.” Rahul spat, looking at me and Kat like we were the worst. Like hell, we were the one that had to follow these souls!
    “And then?”
“And then I forgot who was who. Look at the screen, the name only appeared shortly so I would not remember the name and make it my personal affair if I accidentally know that person or their names. They don’t want us to get attached.”

They didn’t want us to get attached.
I look at Kat. She didn’t know that she was also one of thing they didn’t want us to do. She just nodded, staring at the screens.
“What I think you should do now is go to the library.” Rahul lifted his chin, grinning smugly.
“The Library…you don’t mean…the one at 200th floor?” I narrowed my eyes at Rahul who still smiled like everything I said, every moment I had done was funny.

    “Yes.”

So…I mean no offense or no harm saying this but at that time I really thought ‘Please, let someone who knows shit about organizing system or technologies die please, so I could work in peace with the modern technology down here in this literally hell.’ as I stared at hundreds of bookshelf in front of me in a room that seemed to have no end.
